Oast House Renovations
At Kingsholme we are privileged to have one of the finest examples of an old Farm Oste House. It was used for multiple purposes including sheep shearing, storage of hay and drying out hops in the end towers.
The building is now in quite bad condition all though the roof was renovated some years back. The foundations are cracking at one end and much of the timber supporting the walls have begun to rot. This plus a general need for paint means that quite a bit of money would be required to restore the building to its original condition.
When you visit the Oste House for the first time you realise the massive dimensions and incredible presence the building has upon the area. Even though it is set far into the rear of the Kingsholme farm it can still be seen from the road as you enter Ellendale. It is a three story building and other than the tin roof, it is made completely out of timber.
At Kingsholme we are trying to carry out repairs to this old treasure as we gain resources or funding. We have been removing soil that has built up against its walls over time and adding to the timber rot. We have already replaced some of the flooring, door frames and soon some of the windows.
If you have the skill to help rebuild or can contribute towards the cost of this project we would love to hear from you.
